6 Mind Blowing Ways ‘Starship Troopers’ Predicted the Future

See, that’s the thing about Starship Troopers — to this day, lots of people don’t realize it’s a satire. They think it’s just a really shitty action movie that does a bad job of building sympathy for the protagonists. The reason so many people don’t get the satire is because at the time it wasn’t clear what war it was satirizing (“A quagmire in the desert, triggered by an attack on the homeland? Shit, when has that happened?”) and that’s because the war it was satirizing hadn’t happened yet.

It’s been 13 years since Starship Troopers came out and the first time I saw it with my four best friends until today we still call and text each other with lines from the film whenever it’s on cable.  I was always a fan of  Verhooven’s ultraviolent Robocop (currently being remade by Jose Padilha) and ST is no different.  This more poignant than funny article from cracked.com is one of those things that has proven me right when in the past I’ve said to those who doubt the greatness and brilliance of Starship Troopers with, “My friend, time will tell with Starship Troopers… time will tell!”  That day has come!  Excuse me while I channel my 17 year old self when I say- Suck it Starship haters, suck-it!
